Quality Management System
A Quality Management System is a necessity for any Manufacturer who wishes to provide products of consistent quality to the end user. Often it is a foundation on which a Food Safety Management System is built. Some businesses which embark on the campaign of obtaining certification against a FSMS usually fall short as their GMP and PRPs are not to standard. It is therefore recommended that before a business contemplates implementing a FSMS that they first assess their quality system and manufacturing practices inline with GMP and PRPs.
ISO9001 and SABS10049 are good references which a business can use to fulfil this task. Quality responsibility does not just rest with the Quality department but is an integral part across all departments in manufacturing from Supply Chain through to distribution.
